Mariya was a blessing and a gift I waited 10 years to receive! I’d practically given up hope of being a mummy because fertility doctors felt I would struggling to carry to term and at 39-years-old; time was against me.
The Eve of my 40th birthday, I said goodbye to my dream of being a traditional mummy and decided that my students, nieces and nephews, goddaughters and friends’ kids would be my non-traditional children.
Six months later, I found out I was pregnant. Blessed and shocked, I panicked and celebrated. I walked on eggshells through my first trimester only to discover that all was fine and that I would have a model pregnancy.
She defines for me the meaning of pure unconditional love and joy! Everyday I learn something new about myself. She has my mum’s name as her middle name as not only a tribute to the amazing mother she was to me, but as a reminder of the type of mummy I want and will strive to be for my daughter. She may have been a “bun in the oven” for nine months but she’s my delicious and Devine little ‘Cupcake’ and I just love her!
